Who knew?

My life is not busy enough.
I have so much time, I decided we needed to add another animal to the mix.
A puppy!
A puppy that needs attention, time and training.
So, here she is in all her curly cuteness.
Meet Pepper.
She is an adorable mini schnauzer. She was the runt of the litter in need of a loving home.
I guess that home would be ours!
And we welcome her with enthusiasm. We are all pretty smitten by her. I particularly am charmed by her willingness to house train so well so far.
Cotton seems taken as well. He has been found sleeping right next to her crate.
So welcome to the family Pepper! We look forward to many walks with you, lots of tug-of-wars, some sweet snuggles, and all the other things a puppy can bring to life.
So I'm a dog person! Who knew?

Does she know?

I get to live with an angel.
She is kind, pure and beautiful.
She is sunshine.
Her words are comfort.
Her heart is joy.
I wonder if she knows.

Her gratitude so genuine,
She praises and lifts.
Life is lovely and sweet,
She believes that it is.
I am so blessed...
I get to live with an angel.

Waterslides, Peonies & Ginger bits, Oh My!

Wow, life can sure be busy, can't it? I've been wanting to post lately, but sometimes there just isn't anything you feel is noteworthy. But since part of the reason I blog is to journal, I thought I would just post about some of the things on my mind, noteworthy or not.

We just got back from a really fun weekend trip. We went to Triple Play in Idaho with friends. Among other things, it has an indoor waterpark and that is where we spent our time. Though our eyes stung from all the chlorine in the air, and Monkey C came down with a fever on the last day, we had a great time sliding down all the water slides. My favorite part was watching the kids, hanging out with friends and going down the slide that was shaped like a funnel. Whee!

Primary (the childrens organization in our church) has got me so very busy, sometimes I can't think straight. With meetings, events, visits & presentations, I will admit I am in a love/hate relationship with the job. I mostly love it, but sometimes wish I could more fully concentrate on other things I wish to accomplish. But talk about learning to serve...

Monkey A is busy as ever with her art. Remember when I posted her drawing she was going to submit to the anime club? Well, she submitted two actually and won both 1st & 2nd place. The drawing I shared with you got 2nd, and I haven't seen the 1st place drawing because they have it displayed at school. Here are a few of her latest creations. I love the one of the 3 girls, because it is a drawing of her & her 2 best friends anime style (she made herself with pink hair). The other one is the main character of the book she is contemplating writing.

Want to hear a funny joke? Or two? Here is Reese Witherspoon's favorite - "What did the zero say to the eight?"... "Nice Belt!" Okay, here is the other one from Bill Maher - I love it...Bill Maher is getting sick and tired of body modification. "Just because your tattoo has Chinese characters in it doesn't make you spiritual," he argues. "It translates to 'beef with broccoli.'"

I love Trader Joe's ginger cookies. Have you ever tried them? They have these yummy little bits of chewy ginger in them - that is what makes this cookie. I just had 5 of them for breakfast, oh so healthy!

I must be anticipating summer because the sun is shining right now and it is just so beautiful! It's making me feel warm inside. It is coming through the windows and lighting up the house.
I had a dream the other night of waterballoon fights & peonies. If that isn't all about summer, I don't know what is.

I can't wait for it!

When my 2 oldest were little, I had more time and we were good at keeping their room clean. With my 2 youngest, well...let's just say their room is always a DISASTER and I can hardly stand to go in there. We spent all day yesterday cleaning it up, even making a trip to TJ Maxx for some baskets and other helpful things. It's nice to have it clean, I'm hoping they can keep it that way at least for the week. And yes, I know the room needs paint, but I just don't have time for that at this point. Any color suggestions for when I DO have time?

JUNE 24! Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is coming out, and I cannot wait. My favorite movie has a sequel and the sequel looks HOT!

Oh, and if you have time, check out Trev's blog, Life is Good, he is trying to make a better effort at keeping it updated, and all you bloggers know how nice it is to have feedback. so if you have time, give him a click!

Happy summer dreaming!
Until next time...

Sixth Picture from Sixth Folder - Tag

Okay, I got tagged by Theresa. You find the 6th picture from your 6th folder, post it, and describe it. Here goes...

A few months ago our computer crashed big time and Trev had to recover all our photos. We didn't get them all back, but what we did get back are now completely mixed up in folders, so I was wondering what picture would appear, it could have been anything.

Here it is. This is hilarious. This is from our vacation to the British
Virgin Islands we took in the winter of 2007. Funny Theresa tagged me for this, because they were on this vacation with us. Anyway, this is Trevor holding the feet of Ira. We had a huge barracuda just floating there under the boat. We had snorkeled around him and realized that this little escape hatch?? was right about where is was floating. So Trev took Ira's feet, and Ira put on his mask and snorkel for a close up lookie-loo. Yes, they are crazy men. We were laughing pretty hard, until Ira starting shouting, "Okay, pull me up, pull me up!!!" The barracuda had started to move I think.
Absolutely amazing vacation, in fact I wish I were there right now. Another funny thing about the barracuda, almost every time we anchored the boat, we had a lone barracuda floating there under it. We joked that maybe the same one just kept following us around from stop to stop.

If you want to see more pictures from BVI, one of my favorite vacations ever, you can go back and check out my posts from 2007: Mermaid and Flying Crazy Man and 2008: Christmas Vacation in the Sun and Vacation Pictures Continued

Beware - viewing of more photos may bring on an overwhelming desire to hop on a plane and head for sandy white beaches, bluest of blue oceans and a waiting tan. Let me know if this desire is too much...I'll go with you!!!

Oh, yeah, I'm supposed to tag 5 more people. How about Kristi, Stephanie, Malerie, Donna, & Wendi.

Mr. Tennishead

Let me introduce you to this handsome little fellow.
He has a tiny little racket and a big yellow tennis ball bobblehead.

This is the first trophy I have won since the 3rd grade. In the 3rd grade I won the "Hoop Shoot" for making the most baskets in a certain amount of time. I'm embarrassed to tell you that I granny shot each time, and somehow still won. I'm sure the coaches were so impressed... I still have that trophy in a box somewhere though, I was so proud of it.

Mr. Tennishead sits on my home office desk and smiles at me (okay, he doesn't have a face, but I know he is smiling) while I work. He makes me happy every time I look at him.

The last few weeks my game has been off, and I have wanted to throw my racket in the garbage. Cheer me up Mr. Tennishead, you are a reminder that I can do better!

Breaking Rules

It's 10:00 am.
I am not where I should be.
I should be at tennis practice.
But here I am sitting in a nice, cozy chair STILL in my P.J's (no, not my Snoopy's).
I have the laptop on my lap...hence the name, right?
Next to me is a pile of tiny, shiny gold wrappers. Wait, let me count them...13! Wow!

I got the kids off to school, cleaned up the kitchen, made my bed, and came in here to catch up on some emails. Checked facebook, then a couple of blogs.
But then I kept going, and I checked up on all the blogs I like to look at (there are more than a few). I have been on this computer for over an hour, and during that time, I took out the bag of Werther's Original's Golden Candy Collection.

Have you tried these? They sell them in a bag at Costco, which you know means it is not a small bag. There are 3 different kinds of caramels. I am not a huge caramel fan, I mean I didn't think I was, but I popped one of their new creamy caramel filled ones in my mouth, and I guess I just kept mindlessly popping them in there, because as I said before, there are 13 wrappers sitting next to me. THIRTEEN!! Bring on the tummyache!

Actually, it's been a very enjoyable morning! I love breaking the rules sometimes, even if that means just skipping a practice and stuffing my face with candy. I loved reading about all my friends and family and the things going on in their lives. I loved just SITTING for a while and not worrying about all the other things I am supposed to be doing.
And yes, there are a lot of things I should be doing. I will get to them, always do.
Thanks friends and families for your comments, and your blogs and sharing your lives, you make me laugh & cry and enjoy life a little more.
Glad I broke the rules a little bit today.
Except maybe the candy part...that might catch up with me.

Our Holiday Recap

I'm starting to get back into the swing of things after the holidays, so here is a recap with some pictures to share.

Let's start with all the snow we got before Christmas this year!!! WOW, it was AWESOME! We had a great time sledding down "Hickman Hill", and brought the 4-wheeler to pull everyone back up. We are spoiled brats. But what fun!!! Here's me pulling Monkey C & a friend.Ah, the annual Christmas Eve new pajama tradition. I know many of you do it too. This year, we ALL got jammies, not just the kids. Yes, I do love Snoopy, and the kids thought it was funny that there was a package under the tree "To: Mommy...From: Mommy". But, I was about due for a new pair too!Christmas Eve and all through vacation we love to play games. My mom and dad came over and we played a few.
Here we skip to AFTER Christmas morning gift opening. I didn't post Christmas morning because there were just too many and they were pretty random. But I thought this cute photo was worth sharing. Here is MC reading "Pinkalicious" to MD. CUTE book, even if your little girl is not a pink freak. (mine all tend to be tomboys for some reason...)My sister Kris and her husband Brandon and their 4 kids came a few days later from Cody, WY!! This was the holiday highlight! We had so much fun with them.

My mom likes to host a White Elephant party every year, so she waited this year until Kris & family were here and we had a FABULOUS dinner of chicken enchiladas, & tamales. Oh, it was so yummy, believe me, you WISH you had been invited. Really, you do. Here's us enjoying the food, and here's me sporting my white elephant gifts. Yay, used wrapping paper - I'll take it!We played a lot of basketball hoops. I was the champion for a whole day, and then the rest of the time, everyone kicked my caboose. That's okay, it was fun, even if Trevor DOES use a little too much elbow, and Brandon used his right hand when he said he would use his left. :) Here's me and Brandon with a little friendly competition, followed by Monkey A & Chelsea.
New Year's Eve! We had so much fun at my brother Mike's house. More good food, lots of games, and at midnight we watched the ball drop. This picture is of us all shouting out the countdown. Welcome 2009!!! (Have you ever noticed my love for exclamation points?!!)
We got in as much gaming as we could before Jensens left. We had a blast on the Wii playing bowling, tennis, & boxing. Okay, here are a few boxing pictures. It's hilarious how everyone has a different style. MB looks like he is running, not punching. Kristi has a definite rhythm with jabs and blocks. I am more of a Kung-Fu artist. Hmmmm. We were sweating and laughing and punching so hard, Kris & I had to go change into short sleeves and get drinks to cool us down. Here is MA & Braeden. Then Kris & Brandon, followed by the Kung-Fu artist and her sister. Here's Trev & Kris and pinball. He REALLY likes this game.
Mom & Dad came over before Jensens had to go. We took a few shots, and here is one of us girls. I sure love spending time with my sister & my mom. Two of my most favorite people in the world.
Thanks for tagging along.
I hope you all had super wonderful holidays too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...!!!

The Day After Christmas

The day after Christmas.

He was born, and brought home in a small red Christmas stocking. I don't have any pictures of this, because his baby pictures are still in his mother's home. I am told he was a cranky baby who cried a lot and had skinny "bird legs". Maybe he had an impatient streak even then. The legs have filled out nicely.

The day after Christmas.
A hard day for a birthday. Everyone gets presents, not just you. Everyone is sick of sweets, so the birthday cake doesn't seem so grand. But he never seems to mind. It is still a special day.

We met in the summer. We were 17. It's okay, you can laugh at my big, permed 80's hair. Isn't HE cute, though? Check out that ready smile and those twinkly eyes. Oh, and don't forget the ARMS! Yes, I am a sucker for strong arms, and I tell you what, I am still in love with those arms. They turn me to jello.

It was the day after Christmas, we were still dating, and he asked me to the movies. As we went through the ticket line, I noticed his ex-girlfriend was the one to give us our tickets. This made my stomach turn a little, but it was nothing compared to how I felt when she looked up at him with obvious adoration, completely ignoring my hand in his and said, "Happy Birthday Trevor!"
Uhhhh. Birthday? I didn't know. Or...I forgot. All I remember is feeling foolish and guilty, it should have been ME to wish him a happy birthday! Ugh. Double Ugh.

Fast forward a few years, the day after Christmas. We were driving around running errands. After my incessant whining, he turns to me and says, "Let's just drive to the hospital and see if we can get a room". I'm game. And what do you know, they gave us a room! Five hours later, he turns to me and says, "This is the best birthday present I have EVER received". He is holding our new daughter in his arms, and I can tell he is more than thrilled to share his special day with someone else. His own little girl. Now we have two "day after Christmas" birthdays to celebrate in our family. This year we decided to get a jump on the birthday festivities. It is not yet the day after Christmas, but we got the chance to gather with friends for dinner. We had such a wonderful time. Thank you Benoits, Despains, Halversons, Hickmans, Heidens, Lees, & Madsens for helping us celebrate! He enjoyed himself so much, we both did. It couldn't have been a better gift.

The day after Christmas we will celebrate again with family, and I can't wait.

He is certainly and most definitely something to celebrate!

Merry Christmas AND Happy Birthday Trevor! You are loved!

busy little hands

My little girls excitedly asked Trev & I if they could get a little tree for their room this year. They had such big plans on how to decorate it themselves.

We took them to the store where they picked out a small but lovely white tree with white lights. Perfect for a little girls room.

We brought the small tree home, where they carefully helped me assemble it, moving the laundry basket to make room for "their" tree. Oh were they delighted.
And then they disappeared.

Where did they go? They were busy for hours.
They spent the time cutting, pasting and giggling. They made round paper ornaments, Spongebob ornaments, "I love you" ornaments to name a few. And Skylar made quite a few origami candycanes, stockings, stars and even a cute little Santa-in-a-Chimney ornament (she loves origami). Oh, and I can't forget the yellow construction paper star for the top.Result? Here's the cutest tree I have ever seen. Ever.

The Michaels Man

What do you get when you cross a sombrero, a harmonica and The Salvation Army?
I found out a couple of days ago as I was entering our local Michael's craft store.
I made it a goal this year to put some money into every Salvation Army persons bucket this year, even if it was just small change. You see them at EVERY store now. So far I have been given a mumbled thank you, and maybe a small smile. No problem, doesn't discourage me in any way.
BUT...what a breath of fresh air the Michael's man was! As I approached Michael's from the parking lot, I started to hear music. Not really a tune I could put my finger on, but a pleasant sound, nonetheless. After putting my keys in my purse, I looked up to see a short, hispanic man wearing a huge colorful sombrero. He was smiling the biggest smile I have ever seen as I approached the Salvation Army bucket. He was wearing the red apron, but was not ringing the traditional bell. I put my money in, and he looked me right in the eye (I am a short white person) and said in broken English, "God bless you! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!" He then lifted a harmonica to his lips, and started to play a random tune as he walked back and forth in front of the store.
I was caught off guard! I was smiling from ear to ear! How wonderful! Everyone around me was smiling as well, and he offered a "God Bless You", or "Merry Christmas" to everyone who came within a few feet of him.
I don't know about you, but I rarely hear those words from people outside my circle of friends and family. Perhaps they think they will offend me in some way. I was not offended. I was made cheerful.
And that is what you get when you cross a sombrero, a harmonica, and The Salvation Army.
